I need the male/female power plug-in on my laptop fixed… where is the best/cheapest place to get it done?
I’m a little leery about using BestBuy b/c they have screwed up my stuff before. It should be a simple part replacement, the computer works fine except that the AC adapter doesn’t charge when its plugged in (and no its not the power cord). Can anyone reccomend a different option than best buy? I’d also like to keep the cost of this to a minimum. Thanks for any help
Unfortunately this is not a quick and easy fix. You have to completely disassemble the unit and unsolder the broken power connector, which often has 4 or 5 connections to the mainboard. Then must find a replacement connector and resolder it to the board and reassemble the unit. All of this without screwing anything up.
Most places do this repair for $100 and up.
How do I know? I’ve done about 15 of them myself. It takes a good 6 or 7 hours to fix it, not to mention the time to actually find the replacement jack over the net.
Please note, I don’t have a professional repair shop. Its just me and my handy man skills. Pro’s may do it much faster.
